Don't know if you are old enough to remember Winner Takes All - I vaguely recall what went on but anyway I digress from what is still currently a free app on the Apple App Store thingummyjig which reminds me of the TV programme.
Wits and Wagers Trivia Party in its purest sense is an educated guess at some obscure questions but you play with 3 other people and the Host although not live more on a +1 basis. I'll try and explain a bit more about what goes on (but usually fail miserably!!).
There are six questions in each quiz and then a "Final Round" and you are asked to answer a question. The Host always answers 1.
So each player and the Host has an answer so in total five answers to the question. How confident are you with your answer? If you aren't confident then you have the chance to place two chips (one worth 1 point and another worth 2 points) on other peoples answer to gain points to your total.
If you are closest to the answer without going over then you receive 1 point. But if you place your two chips on the answer as well then you get an additional 3 points. But your opponents could also place their chips on your answer and collect a maximum three points for the same question. It is an excellent game to play tactically especially if you have someone clever in the game who you see answering every question correctly because you can follow them to gain points. There is a slight twist to the gameplay because if you place chips on the host and the nearest answer is the host then you collect double points so a possible 6 points. You don't see the bets until after you have confirmed where you have placed your own chips.
There is an American slant to the questions which is good for building up gaps in general knowledge of American culture (maybe an app for The Beast to practice on before going on The Chase USA) but sometimes the odd European question comes up (When was the first Tour De France?) which means you can get 4 points straightaway.
So after 6 questions, the final round and this is the chance where you can place all of your points collated in the previous six questions on the answer or you can play it safe and not bet any additional points in the hope your opponents have gone all gung-ho and wasted all their points.
At the end, everyones score is totalled up and if you win, great and if not, then try again. It's free.
I really like this game and recommend you get it if you happen to have an Apple based product at home. Granny Smith would love it.
Currently, I have played 42 games winning 25 (59.5% win ratio), 9 2nd places (21.4%), 2 3rd places and 6 4th places over the past week or so - not bad going.
